The Department of Veterans Affairs is currently in search of a Board Eligible/Board Certified Psychiatrist to join our dedicated team within the Substance Abuse Residential Treatment Program (SARRTP) and Outpatient Substance Use Disorder (SUD) clinic.

This role involves performing comprehensive evaluations for psychiatric conditions, substance use disorders, alcohol dependency, social issues, and related medical concerns in both residential and outpatient environments.

The successful candidate will implement suitable therapeutic approaches, which may include psychotropic medications, individual counseling, and group therapy sessions. Treatment strategies will encompass a full spectrum of clinically appropriate interventions and rehabilitation services tailored for patients with substance use disorders, including:

  • Ambulatory withdrawal management
  • Addressing the psychological and behavioral dimensions of addiction through evidence-based pharmacotherapy and psychosocial support.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Work Schedule:
Primarily 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.

There may be future requirements for evening or weekend clinics, but a consistent 40-hour work week will be maintained.

On-Call Requirements:
Telephone consultations on weekdays and in-person presence on weekends, with a frequency of 1-in-12.

Department Composition:
The department includes approximately 12 psychiatrists, 18 psychologists, 30 social workers, 2 advanced practice nurses, 2 licensed marriage and family therapists, 2 licensed professional counselors, and 15 registered nurses.

Continuing Medical Education (CME):
$1,000 annual stipend for reimbursement plus one week of paid authorized absence (subject to availability).

Office Setup:
Private office space provided.

Workload:
The role consists of 2/3rd focus on residential rehabilitation within a 28-bed unit and 1/3rd on outpatient SUD clinic responsibilities, along with administrative and educational duties.

Federal Retirement Plan:
VA employees are covered under the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS), which includes Social Security benefits, basic pension benefits, and a Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) similar to a 401(k).

Employees contribute 4.4% of their salary, while the VA contributes 8.8% each pay period, totaling a 12% annual contribution.

Employees under 50 can contribute up to $17,500 annually, with catch-up contributions available for those over 50.

The Federal Government also provides an automatic basic contribution of 1% of salary and matching contributions up to 4%, depending on employee contributions.

For retired military personnel, these benefits are in addition to full monthly retirement pay or pension, along with health care insurance coverage for retirees.

Disability retirement options are available after 5 years of service.
