Position Overview

The Financial Aid Department operates in a highly customer-focused environment, engaging with both internal teams and the diverse communities served by Lehigh Carbon Community College. The Financial Aid Assistant plays a crucial role in the coordination and management of various federal, state, institutional, and third-party financial assistance programs. This position encompasses a variety of complex tasks that are subject to strict regulations, necessitating a high degree of discretion, initiative, and meticulous attention to detail. The role involves extensive telephone communication and frequent high-level customer service interactions. The Financial Aid Assistant reports directly to the Associate Director of Financial Aid - Student Services and Outreach.

This position is primarily based at the Schnecksville campus, with potential travel to other college locations as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive financial aid information to prospective and current students and their families, both in person and through various communication channels, including telephone and email.
  • Assist students and prospective applicants in completing all necessary application forms, verification documents, and other paperwork required to secure and maintain financial aid.
  • Utilize administrative computing systems, such as Ellucian Banner, to manage student records and financial aid processes.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service at the service window and provide evening coverage as required throughout the academic year.
  • Manage the scanning and indexing of required documentation and maintain accurate record-keeping.
  • Conduct verification of student records and perform academic progress assessments.
  • Check eligibility for Pennsylvania State Grants and ensure compliance with program requirements.
  • Participate in and/or present at various college workshops, FAFSA completion events, and information sessions, both on campus and in the community, in both English and Spanish.
  • Engage in specialized projects and additional duties as assigned.
  • Develop and maintain an operations manual for the position.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:
Education:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Foreign degrees must be accompanied by a US equivalency report.
Certifications:
  • Act 153 Clearances (including Act 34 PA Criminal Background, Act 151 PA Child Abuse History, and Act 114 FBI Clearance Fingerprinting).
Experience:
  • Minimum of one year of experience in financial aid or a related office environment.
  • Proficiency in utilizing software and technology for administrative tasks.
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering excellent customer service.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to manage frequent interruptions while maintaining a commitment to professional development.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.
  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills.
  • Strong teamwork, initiative, customer service orientation, and commitment to personal growth.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate Degree from an accredited institution.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, and communicate effectively. The employee may regularly lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required for this role include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
