Culinary Specialist

Wartburg College is seeking a skilled Culinary Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our dining services team, you will be responsible for preparing high-quality food for our students, faculty, and staff.

• Food Preparation: Prepare a variety of dishes for board plan dining, special diets, catering, and retail areas, utilizing information from rotating menus, service records, distribution summaries, recipes, and sales orders.
• Equipment Operation and Maintenance: Set up, operate, use, disassemble, clean, and sanitize food service equipment and work areas, including washing and sanitizing pans and other dishes.
• Service Records and Quality Control: Accurately complete service records, recording all items used, run out times, recipe yields, and food quality. Monitor food quality and assist with proper FIFO (first in first out) inventory usage.
• Customer Service: Cook in front of guests, plate food, serve, engage with guests and colleagues, and provide quality customer service.
• Sanitation and Safety: Ensure sanitary food production, storage, and handling techniques, including labeling and dating, and packaging food to be sold or issued.
• Team Leadership: Welcome, orient, train, and supervise student employees.
• General Maintenance: Receive and put away food, compost and recycle, sweep and mop floors, and perform other related duties as assigned.

• Experience: 9 months of effective experience in a related field.
• Skills: Basic math, use of a calculator and scale, ability to read and follow written and verbal directions, communication and good customer service skills, ability to lift 50 lbs., and work effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
• Physical Abilities: Standing and moving, lifting up to 50 lbs., pinching, hand/wrist position, and endurance are moderate requirements of the position.
