About the Job

The Santa Ana Unified School District is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Plant Custodian to join our team. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and safety of our elementary school campus.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and direct plant custodial and minor maintenance work at the elementary school campus
  • Confer with the principal on problems and establish priorities
  • Monitor and maintain the heating and air conditioning, plumbing, fire alarm, and security systems
  • Clean and disinfect restrooms, clean carpet, and perform semi-skilled painting, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, heating, glazing, and grounds maintenance
  • Operate heating, ventilating, lighting, and pumping equipment
  • Obtain needed parts and make minor repairs to sinks, toilets, door locks, switches, lights, and other items as needed
  • Direct the placement of furniture and equipment to accommodate the needs of the instructional program
  • Assure plant security is maintained and assist with fire and disaster drills
  • Prepare laundry for pickup and read meters as necessary
  • Order equipment and custodial supplies as needed
  • Investigate and report burglaries and vandalism
Requirements
  • Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school and one year of experience in performing school custodial work
  • Knowledge of correct methods, materials, and approved procedures related to institutional housekeeping, grounds maintenance, and semi-skilled plant maintenance activities
  • Ability to plan, direct, supervise, and perform plant maintenance, custodial, and grounds maintenance services
Working Conditions

The successful candidate will work in an elementary school environment with possible adverse weather conditions.

  • Hearing and speaking to exchange information
  • Standing and walking for extended periods of time
  • Lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling moderately heavy objects, normally not exceeding sixty (60) pounds
  • Reaching overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally
  • Seeing to perform custodial work and read materials
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate custodial equipment
  • Bending at the waist, kneeling, or crouching
