Job Overview

Position Summary

The Patient Referral Specialist plays a crucial role in managing and processing all necessary managed care referral documentation. This position is responsible for coordinating the scheduling of patients for examinations and procedures with specialists and providers outside of the primary care physician's office. We are seeking an individual who is eager to contribute to a vibrant team dedicated to delivering exceptional service while performing clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the processing of patient referrals and ensure timely scheduling for recommended non-primary care physician appointments.
  • Act as a liaison between Medicare patients and healthcare providers, ensuring efficient processing, monitoring, and communication regarding all aspects of patient referrals.
  • Maintain an updated list of preferred specialists and ancillary providers within the designated area.
  • Secure referral authorizations as mandated by the health plan.
  • Contact referred specialists to arrange appointments for patients.
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with patients concerning their appointments.
  • Adhere to established guidelines and workflows to complete and document all referrals processed through the system.
  • Achieve monthly and quarterly targets related to referral utilization and processing.
  • Uphold the highest standards of confidentiality; comply with all HIPAA regulations and guidelines.
  • Assist in coordinating activities related to insurance pre-certification and authorization.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent GED.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Patient Referral Specialist in a primary care environment, or relevant experience in a medical office setting, such as Front Office Receptionist or Medical Assistant.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish is preferred but not mandatory.
