This role allows you to join multi-disciplinary design teams engaged in projects aimed at remediating environmental impacts from the legacy nuclear weapons production complex and/or safeguarding our nation's nuclear deterrent.
Our team is responsible for designing facilities, systems, and equipment that manage, treat, and dispose of nuclear waste, as well as systems that safely handle and process nuclear materials.
This essential work is both meaningful and challenging, providing a sense of pride in your contributions.
As part of a project team, you will assist engineering colleagues in executing their project tasks.
In addition to your direct contributions to engineering efforts, you will help coordinate resources across multiple Sargent & Lundy (S&L) offices.
Much of the work is expected to be associated with DOE facilities in the western United States and their nuclear operations.
Under the guidance of the Systems and Licensing Support Engineering Manager, this position provides an opportunity to enhance your skills in hazardous event analysis, alternatives analysis, life cycle evaluations, systems engineering, project management, and client engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
• Close collaboration with and management of client interactions
• Technical support in planning and executing engineering analysis activities
• Resource planning and coordination, assisting with project participant integration
• Support to ensure projects are completed satisfactorily, on schedule, and within budget
• Coordination of systems design activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and client requirements
• Preparation of reports and studies that clearly present technical information and meet client specifications and S&L formats
• Conduct safety requirement evaluations for safety-related systems, structures, and components
• Facilitate meetings with numerous participants and generate associated reports
• Evaluate designs for factory, construction, and operational testing requirements
Qualifications:
• Must be a U.S. Citizen; dual citizenship with another country does not qualify.
• We do not sponsor employees for work authorization in the U.S. for this position.
Essential Skills and Experience:
• A Bachelor of Science degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program is required
• Candidates should have a working knowledge of operations in facilities involving hazardous activities, such as DOE nuclear facilities
• A minimum of 10 years of experience in nuclear facility operations is required
• Strong verbal and written communication skills along with proficient PC skills are essential
• Experience in applying nuclear safety requirements to systems, structures, and components
Valued but Not Required Skills and Experience:
• Understanding of the practical application of engineering and technology, including systems principles, techniques, and procedures in project design
• Familiarity with NQA-1 Quality Assurance programs and procedures
• Experience in system, structure, and component testing
• Experience in Process Hazard Analysis (lead or scribe)
• Experience as a Core Unreviewed Safety Question evaluator (or equivalent)
