The Kansas State University is seeking an accomplished Agronomist Professor to lead an innovative extension education and applied research program in Southeast Kansas, focusing on agronomic crop production and collaborating with an interdisciplinary team of Extension specialists and research scientists. The tenure home for this position will be in the Department of Agronomy.
The deployed Extension and applied research program should be responsive to the issues and needs of the people of Southeast Kansas and Kansas State Research and Extension (KSRE) Agriculture Extension Agents. The successful candidate will investigate forages and cropping systems for the region, collaborate with other subject matter disciplines at the regional and state level, and meet expectations of extension-related scholarship and applied research.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership for Extension educational programs in forages, field crops, precision agriculture tools/techniques, soils, and weed management in Southeast Kansas.
- Plan, design, implement, evaluate, and market Extension educational programs.
- Conceive, plan, implement, and publish applied field-based research in production agriculture.
- Collaborate with other subject matter disciplines at the regional and state level.
Requirements:
- Ph.D. in agronomy, forages, weed science, crops, soils, or closely related field with a strong background in applied agronomy.
- Excellent communication skills and demonstrated proficiency in written and spoken English.
- Ability to plan, design, implement, and deliver extension educational programs to producers, industry personnel, and county extension agents.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in forage and crop production practices and weed control methods for rainfed cropping systems.
- Proven ability to conceive, plan, implement, and publish applied research.
- Documented evidence of planning and delivering extension programming.
- Demonstrated record of extension and scientific publication and grant writing appropriate for current career development.
