The Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) plays a vital role in delivering comprehensive care to newborns and their families in various healthcare environments. Collaborating closely with Neonatologists, the NNP is responsible for advanced nursing practices within the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and beyond, focusing on the management of vulnerable infants and engaging in critical interventions.
Core Responsibilities:
- Evaluate maternal medical history and labor/delivery circumstances.
- Oversee the care of infants in the NICU under the guidance of the Neonatologist.
- Conduct thorough physical examinations and analyze clinical findings.
- Request and interpret diagnostic tests and therapeutic interventions.
- Execute essential procedures such as endotracheal intubation and chest tube placement.
- Maintain accurate documentation of assessments, interventions, and outcomes.
- Manage the technical aspects of respiratory support for infants.
- Engage in research initiatives and pursue ongoing professional growth.
- Support the training and orientation of new staff and students.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to enhance patient care.
- Assist in the formulation and revision of clinical standards and protocols.
- Comply with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
- Completion of an accredited nursing program; a Master of Science in Nursing (M.S.N.) is preferred.
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Alabama.
- Certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner is mandatory.
- A minimum of two years' experience in a Level III NICU is advantageous.
- Current certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) are required.
This position demands exceptional leadership capabilities, sound decision-making skills, and effective communication. The role is set in a dynamic environment that presents various challenges and responsibilities.
Physical Requirements:
The role necessitates significant physical activity, including standing, walking, bending, and lifting. Candidates must possess stamina and the ability to respond effectively in emergency situations. Physical presence at the workplace is essential.
