Job Summary

This position is a Psychiatrist specializing in Substance Use Disorder for the Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration. The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive psychiatric services, diagnose behavioral disorders, and work with the Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program.

Responsibilities
  • Provide a full range of psychiatric services, including diagnosis and treatment of behavioral disorders.
  • Work with the Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program to provide comprehensive care to veterans.
  • Assess and treat veterans with Substance Use Disorder, including those referred to the Same Day Access Clinic.
  • Consult with emergency department staff to provide treatment and assess levels of care for SUD treatment.
  • Develop and implement psychotherapeutic treatment plans for assigned caseloads of veterans.
  • Provide consultation to professional staff within Behavioral Health and other specialty programs.
  • Function independently as a member of the Behavioral Health team, with full clinical privileges.
  • Assume complete professional responsibility for clinical assessments, care decisions, and documentation.
  • Provide outreach services to veterans and their families as needed.
  • Develop and maintain high-quality Inpatient Behavioral Health services, meeting VISN and VACO requirements.
  • Assist the section chief and service chief in designing, developing, and implementing clinical programs for treatment providers.
  • Adhere to operational policies and procedures, focusing on providing quality care to veterans.
  • Assist in executing program evaluation and data-driven quality improvement projects.
  • Facilitate liaisons with other medical programs to coordinate services.
  • Comply with national and local performance measures, including timely medical care screening and completion of clinical reminders.
  • Comply with CPRS documentation procedures and requirements, including timeliness standards for documentation.
Requirements
  • United States citizenship or non-citizenship with VA approval.
  • Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
  • Full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States.
  • Residency training in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship training or Board Certification preferred.
