As a Lead Mobile Application Engineer, you will play a crucial role in our mission to deliver a top-tier mobile app experience. You will design solutions and provide technical guidance to engineering teams across these domains while contributing to the foundational aspects of the Mobile platform.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Build relationships with leaders across the organization to identify and solve business challenges through technology.
  • Promote the development of stable, scalable, resilient, and extendable software solutions.
  • Mentor team members in assessing the impact of solutions, ensuring alignment between structure, personnel, processes, and technology.
  • Support technology professionals in communities of practice and offer guidance to teams.
  • Stay informed on industry trends and develop methods to implement them within our ecosystem.
  • Collaborate across organizational boundaries to deliver technology and architectural initiatives that enhance the traveler and partner experience.
  • Work closely with other architects to ensure a seamless developer and customer experience across all platforms.
  • Demonstrate the ability to step in for peer engineering directors as needed, coordinating technical next steps with engineering management.
  • Develop a visionary roadmap for the domains you oversee.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field or equivalent experience.
  • Strong background in UX Software Engineering.
  • Proficient in standard software engineering practices and methodologies, covering the entire software development lifecycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, and testing.
  • Ability to translate ambiguous business requirements into actionable solutions and lead their execution.
  • Comprehensive understanding of systems developed across Expedia Group and their integration with various business units.
  • Expertise in best practices surrounding experimentation, analytics, and observability, enabling iterative problem-solving.
  • Proficient in creating engaging interactions, transitions, animations, and motion behaviors.
  • Skilled in layout design and crafting applications with accessibility in mind.
  • A dedicated and influential individual contributor who sets a positive example, mentors peers, and remains hands-on when necessary.
  • Effective communicator and collaborator with both technical and non-technical leadership across various subject areas.
Technical Skills:
  • Experience in end-to-end development and publishing of multiple native applications, ideally across different platforms.
  • Familiarity with API technologies and an understanding of Server Driven UI approaches, including API-first design methodologies like GraphQL.
  • Strong grasp of object-oriented principles, client/server architecture, and high-performance design.
  • Proficient in Kotlin/Java and Swift/ObjC, with experience in Android Studio/Jetbrains IDE and Xcode.
  • Ability to assess trade-offs related to memory, power, connectivity, performance, and other constraints in embedded systems.
  • Hands-on experience in building native user experiences with modern declarative systems such as Jetpack Compose/Flow and SwiftUI/Combine.
  • Practices Test Driven Development and is familiar with various testing frameworks.
  • Knowledge of Continuous Development/Integration tools like Github Actions and Spinnaker.
  • Deep understanding of MVVM and other design patterns, such as SOLID, to create testable and debuggable code.
  • Experience with multi-module projects and shared libraries.
  • Previous experience in developing adaptable, machine learning-powered experiences is a plus.
Compensation:
The total cash range for this position varies based on location and individual qualifications. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay based on ongoing performance.
