Job Summary

  • Directs and oversees the center's budget and financial system, ensuring compliance with all internal audit requirements, grants and contracts policies and procedures, and state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Prepares reports, analyses and projections, and oversees and approves financial reporting to all constituents, both internal and external to UH.
  • Directs and oversees human resource, payroll, procurement and travel service functions for the center.
  • Oversees the administration of information technology systems and procurement of capital equipment.
  • Oversees the renovation, maintenance and repair of facilities for the center.
  • Assists principal investigators with proposal preparation and submission.
  • Manages administration of sub-recipient agreements, subcontracts, service contracts and consultant contracts with other universities, federal agencies, research institutions and private sector organizations and companies; assists with intellectual property and technology transfer activities.
  • Serves as liaison for the center with other university departments and component campuses to coordinate center administrative activities and resolve issues.
  • Represents the center at conferences, expositions, meetings and other public activities; provides financial and logistical supervision for conferences hosted by the centers.
Additional Responsibilities

Directs the administrative and financial functions for two Welch Foundation research centers that are led by Profs. Jeffrey Rimer and Megan Robertson and comprise a total of ten principal investigators.

Manages the center's administrative and financial operations, including supervision of staff.

Develops and implements business-related policies and procedures to ensure compliance with UH, state, foundation regulations; participates in strategic planning meetings.

Recommends and implements solutions to operational issues and challenges; identifies opportunities for operational improvements.

Directs and oversees the center's budget and financial system, ensuring compliance with all internal audit requirements, grants and contracts policies and procedures, and state and foundation rules and regulations.

Helps prepare progress reports, analyses and projections, and oversees and approves financial reporting to all constituents, both internal and external to UH.

Directs and oversees human resource, payroll, procurement and travel service functions for the center and center directors.

Oversees the administration of information technology systems and procurement of capital equipment.

Assists center directors with proposal preparation and submission.

Manages administration of sub-recipient agreements, subcontracts, service contracts and consultant contracts with other universities, federal agencies, research institutions and private sector organizations and companies.

Assists with intellectual property and technology transfer activities.

Serves as liaison for the center with other university departments and component campuses to coordinate center administrative activities, and resolve issues.

Represents the center at conferences, meetings and other public activities; provides financial and logistical supervision for symposia and meetings hosted by the centers.

Performs other job-related duties as required.

Qualifications

Bachelors and 7 years experience

Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline.

Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed.

Requires a minimum of seven (7) years of directly job-related experience.

Additional Qualifications

A PhD or MS degree in a scientific field (e.g., engineering, chemistry, or related disciplines) is highly desirable, but is not mandatory.

Education in Lieu of Experience will be considered
