Licensed Practical Nurse - North 5 Women's Surgery

Employment Type: Full-Time

Shift: Days or Nights; includes every third weekend and holiday rotation

The North 5 unit specializes in providing nursing care for patients within a 24-bed Medical/Surgical environment. The patient demographic primarily includes surgical cases such as gynecological, mastectomy, plastic surgery, ENT, and general surgical patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and clinical skills required to care for individuals with physical disabilities and chronic conditions.
  • Engages in patient and family education, utilizing appropriate resources to develop personalized teaching and discharge plans.
  • Delivers hands-on nursing care by applying the nursing process to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
  • Supports the care provided by other team members.
  • Oversees and guides unlicensed assistive personnel, applying clinical judgment in accordance with Iowa's LPN scope of practice, employing problem-solving techniques and effective time management.
  • Coordinates nursing care activities in collaboration with the interdisciplinary rehabilitation team to meet overall objectives.
  • Exhibits strong oral and written communication skills to build rapport with patients, families, and healthcare team members, ensuring compliance with legal documentation and reimbursement requirements.
  • Maintains a steadfast commitment to the Acute Care team.
  • Contributes to the assessment of patients' physical, psychological, sociocultural, and spiritual needs, as well as their educational and discharge requirements.
  • Collaborates with other rehabilitation team members and contributes to the dynamic interdisciplinary care plan.
  • Implements the interdisciplinary care plan within the LPN/LVN practice scope, providing nursing care and education directly or through support personnel as necessary to maintain and restore function and prevent complications.
  • Participates in evaluating nursing care and adjusting the plan as needed to achieve measurable goals.
  • Engages in the interdisciplinary team process during team conferences and meetings, offering input into decision-making within their scope of practice.
Qualifications

Education: Successful completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse program.

Experience: Preferred experience or clinical exposure in Post-Acute Care or Acute Care settings.

Licensure/Certification:

  • Current, valid licensure to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Iowa.
  • Must maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtain it within three months of hire.
  • Valid driver's license required for work-related driving.
