Job SummaryWe are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Optometrist to provide comprehensive eye care services, including examination, diagnosis, and treatment of various eye conditions. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients.
Responsibilities- Examine and diagnose patients with various eye conditions, including vision anomalies, diseases, and abnormalities.
- Prescribe and adapt spectacle lenses, optical aids, and other treatments as necessary.
- Refer patients to other health professionals for further diagnosis and treatment.
- Provide emotional support and comfort to patients and their families during treatment interventions.
- Manage patient workload within available staffing, including support of health technicians.
- Coordinate care with VA's tertiary care facilities and VA sharing partners.
- Perform administrative components of patient care management, including documentation and ordering.
To qualify for this position, you must meet the following requirements:
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
- Doctor of Optometry degree from an accredited institution.
- Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Minimum of 2-3 years of experience practicing in a VA setting or private Optometric clinic setting.
Work EnvironmentThis position requires a pre-employment physical and is located at the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, MO. The work schedule is Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm, with no compressed or flexible scheduling available.
