The Lead Industrial Process Engineer will be tasked with formulating and conveying strategies for improving manufacturing equipment productivity based on organizational requirements, equipment utilization metrics, and efficiency benchmarks. This role will employ lean six sigma methodologies alongside data-driven computerized manufacturing process models. The insights gained will support investments in new manufacturing technologies or modifications to existing equipment, automation, or operational principles. Collaboration with various operational improvement stakeholders at a global scale is essential, and interaction with senior management across all Biogen manufacturing sites will be a key component of this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain manufacturing process models utilizing the Intelligen software suite in partnership with Site Scheduling, Manufacturing, and Manufacturing Engineering teams. Enhance models to incorporate raw material and utility consumption, wastewater emissions (both quantitative and qualitative), and labor associated with each manufacturing process step.
- Establish tools and processes for collecting, analyzing, and validating real-world data from process equipment and operations to support and verify the models.
- Analyze the models to identify bottlenecks and propose mitigations, presenting findings to stakeholders to determine the best course of action.
- Formulate productivity enhancement strategies and metrics aligned with business objectives and industry benchmarks, focusing on the utilization and efficiency of manufacturing equipment, process unit operations, utilities, and facilities.
- Contribute to cost of goods manufactured models derived from manufacturing process models.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will possess an advanced understanding of manufacturing processes and a proven track record of applying their expertise to tackle complex challenges. Experience in managing intricate processes and problems, along with a history of taking on leadership roles, is essential. The candidate should demonstrate a capacity to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to achieve results.
Exceptional communication skills are required, with the ability to distill complex learnings from models, calculations, and advanced methodologies into clear, concise communications tailored to various stakeholders. The candidate should be adept at conveying conclusions and scenarios to manufacturing operations leaders and decision-makers at senior and executive levels.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering with 10-12 years of experience in the process industry (pharmaceutical, biotechnology, chemicals, food, oil & gas, energy, automotive, etc.), including at least 5 years in a process improvement capacity utilizing computerized process modeling tools.
- Experience in establishing and implementing manufacturing productivity improvement business processes.
- In-depth knowledge and experience in manufacturing process efficiency metrics and analytics (e.g., OEE).
- Demonstrated experience in a matrix environment collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Equivalent education and experience may also be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree.
- Experience with Intelligen software suite.
