Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Systems Analyst II to join our team at the Houston Journal of Health Law & Policy. As a key member of our IT department, you will be responsible for analyzing and evaluating existing and proposed systems, planning and developing computer solutions, and providing system management support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze and evaluate existing and proposed systems to identify areas for improvement and develop recommendations for system enhancements.
  • Plan and develop computer solutions to meet the needs of the organization, including designing and implementing new systems and processes.
  • Provide system management support, including monitoring and maintaining system performance, troubleshooting issues, and implementing system upgrades.
  • Develop and maintain electronic information systems for a major university function or program, including analyzing, developing, and maintaining databases and data systems.
  • Interface with users to identify needs and oversee the preparation and compilation of resulting data and reports.
  • Train staff to use computers and the implemented system, instructing clerical staff on system use and developing long-range planning of software/hardware purchases and developments.
  • Supervise data entry and computing support personnel, designing new processes and procedures for maximum utilization of human resources.
  • Administer and modify database, perform systems analysis to ensure data integrity, design all new computing processes, develop implementation procedures and schedule of new automated tasks.
  • Represent the department with other administrative offices concerning system modification and lead lower-level systems analysts.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • Minimum of three years of directly job-related experience.
  • Thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline.
  • Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4-year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Microsoft products, including Windows Server, SQL Server, IIS, SCCM, Active Directory, SharePoint, and Azure.
  • Experience with Dell, HP, EMC storage and server hardware and management software.
  • Knowledge of VMWare virtualization and VDI.
  • Familiarity with relationship database methodology.

This position may be eligible for Alternative Work Arrangements, as allowed by UH policy.
