Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Lead Patient Care Technician to join our team at St. David's South Austin Medical Center. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will play a vital role in delivering exceptional patient care and supporting the nursing staff in providing high-quality services.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in the implementation of nursing care plans by performing direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of the licensed nurse.
  • Obtain and record initial and ongoing patient information throughout the cycle of care, including admissions data, vital signs, height and weight, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, intake and output, calorie counts, and other patient information as outlined by policy.
  • Assist with mobility by regular turning and positioning, dangling, and ambulating patients. Assist with use of walkers, crutches, canes, and wheelchairs. Transfers patients to and from other units, departments, or entities. Assist with discharges.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living to include eating and drinking, bathing, shaving, oral care, grooming, and elimination. Changes bed linens as needed.
  • Perform hourly rounding and respond promptly to call lights and patient requests. Strive to anticipate patient needs and resolve them proactively.
  • Engage in evidence-based best practices that enhance the patient experience, including SAFETY rounding, communication fundamentals/AIDET, Teach-Back, Narrating Care, etc.
Requirements
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in a patient care or nursing role.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
