The City of North Las Vegas is seeking a highly skilled Water Systems Operator II to join our team. As an essential member of our water distribution team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and reliable delivery of water to our community.
Key Responsibilities- Operate and maintain water production, storage, treatment, and distribution facilities, including control valves, pumping stations, and electronic and computer supervisory control and data acquisition systems (SCADA).
- Interpret gauges, meters, charts, and graphs to monitor and adjust water flow throughout the system.
- Operate pumps, valves, wells, disinfection systems, and related equipment to maintain optimal water quality and pressure.
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on water distribution systems, including construction and maintenance of new and existing infrastructure.
- Collaborate with other team members to ensure seamless operation of the water distribution system.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required; additional vocational or technical training in mechanical maintenance preferred.
- Two years of progressively responsible experience performing construction and maintenance on water distribution systems.
- Two years of progressively responsible experience as a Water Systems Operator I with the City of North Las Vegas, or two years of progressively responsible experience as a water systems operator with a water distribution utility with over 60,000 services, 2 or more pump stations, and 2 or more wells.
- Equivalent: Four years of progressively responsible experience performing construction and maintenance on water distribution systems.
- Valid Nevada driver's license required; must maintain a satisfactory motor vehicle record.
- State of Nevada Water Distribution Operator Certificate Grade II required at time of application for hire, promotion, transfer, or reclassification.
- Complete online application through the City's application system.
- Screening of application/resume; best qualified candidates invited to participate in assessment process.
- Virtual pre-screen (pass/fail).
- Written exam (weighted 25%, passing score 70%): test measures knowledge in water operations and water distribution systems, and overall operational maintenance and duties.
- Oral board interview (weighted 75%, passing score 70%).
- Pre-employment screening, including local and state criminal history check, federal criminal history check via submission of fingerprints, and drug screening.
