Position Summary:
The Certified Medication Aide (CMA) plays a crucial role in overseeing caregiver staff during their shifts, ensuring high-quality care for residents while adhering to our organizational values. The CMA is responsible for the accurate administration of prescribed medications to residents, in compliance with state regulations and company policies. This role also involves providing personalized care, responding to emergencies, and safeguarding residents' rights to safe and confidential treatment.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of one year of experience in a Senior Living environment.
- Supervisory experience in healthcare or a related field is preferred.
- Must possess a Certified Nursing Assistant Certificate.
- Must hold a Georgia Certified Medication Aide Certificate.
- Good standing with the Georgia CNA/CMA Registry is required.
- Proficient in English (reading, writing, speaking).
- Compassionate and friendly demeanor with a passion for working with the elderly.
- Must be at least 21 years old and pass a criminal background check.
- Physical examination by a licensed physician and a negative drug screening are mandatory.
- Ability to respond effectively in emergency situations.
Key Responsibilities:
Resident Care Services
- Execute all assigned duties effectively as directed by the Wellness Director or Executive Director. Supervise caregiver staff to ensure quality care aligned with our organizational philosophy.
- Follow each resident's Negotiated Service Plan and report any changes in their condition to the appropriate personnel.
- Respond promptly to resident calls for assistance.
- Seek guidance from the Executive Director or Wellness Director if uncertain about medication administration.
- Assist with meal service and oversee caregiver staff in the dining area, ensuring cleanliness post-meal.
- Implement infection control measures and manage waste disposal according to company policies.
- Foster positive relationships with residents and their families.
- Handle resident emergencies following established protocols.
- Assist in scheduling caregiver staff to meet resident needs and ensure adequate staffing levels.
- Address on-the-job injuries in accordance with company policies.
- Complete required continuing education units (CEUs) biennially and annually as mandated.
- Promote teamwork and exemplify the Oaks Senior Living philosophy.
- Maintain an open-door policy for staff to discuss concerns or grievances.
- Keep CPR and First Aid certifications current.
Medication Management
- Adhere to the six 'rights' of medication administration at all times, verifying each step thoroughly.
- Administer medications according to the Medication Observation Record (MOR) while ensuring resident privacy. Document all medication-related actions accurately.
- Respect residents' rights to refuse medication and ensure their safety during administration.
- Monitor residents for adverse reactions to medications and report findings immediately.
Communication
- Participate in regular staff meetings and mandatory training sessions.
- Effectively communicate residents' needs during shift changes and report any significant changes in their condition to the appropriate staff.
- Ensure all necessary documentation for resident care is completed and maintained accurately.
Reports to: Wellness Director, Executive Director, and Manager-on-Duty
Physical Requirements:
To perform this role, employees must be capable of executing essential physical tasks for extended periods. Employees should follow proper body mechanics and safety protocols when assisting or transferring residents. Typical physical demands include:
- Standing or walking for up to eight hours daily, with sitting for up to two hours.
- Frequently lifting up to 70 pounds and occasionally carrying up to 15 pounds.
- Regularly kneeling, bending, and reaching, with assistance for resident transfers as needed.
