Position SummaryBirdon America, Inc. is in search of a Welder Class 1 to contribute to our expanding operations at the Bayou La Batre shipyard. This role presents an excellent opportunity to leverage your expertise in the construction of a new Coast Guard vessel.
Key Responsibilities- Weld aluminum and carbon steel components for maritime vessels.
- Read and interpret blueprints accurately.
- Set up welding equipment and execute precise welding techniques.
- Conduct quality checks to ensure adherence to specifications.
- Collaborate with team members to maintain a safe and efficient work environment.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in shipbuilding or related industries.
- Proficient in reading blueprints and technical drawings.
- Ability to perform various welding positions (uphill, horizontal, vertical, flat).
- Strong attention to detail to support quality assurance initiatives.
- Excellent mathematical skills and ability to use measuring tools accurately.
- Capability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks regularly.
- Must pass a Pre-Employment Mock Weld Test and 3G-4G structure plate test within 90 days of employment.
- Commitment to safety standards and practices.
- Demonstrated strong work ethic and effective communication skills.
