The PositionThis is a dynamic opportunity to join our team as a Head Athletic Coach for the Gymnastics Program at Sequim High School.
As a key member of our athletic department, you will be responsible for instructing athletes in the fundamental skills, strategies, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success.
You will also provide instruction that leads to the formulation of strong character, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline, and self-confidence.
The success of our athletic programs has a strong influence on the community's image of the school, and we expect our coaches to demonstrate good sportsmanship, good mental health, and safety above all else.
Responsibilities- Develop and implement coaching plans that promote athlete growth and development
- Conduct fair and equitable tryouts to select team members
- Provide training on rules and skills of the specific sport, including physical conditioning and injury prevention
- Institute, teach, and monitor all drills, providing positive motivation and discipline when necessary
- Select, direct, and monitor activities of any team managers or volunteers
- A valid Washington teaching certificate and willingness to assume a teaching position in a needed area
- Previous coaching experience, with knowledge of coaching theory, techniques, and rules for the assigned sport
- Knowledgeable and competent in areas of care and prevention of athletic injuries, basic sports injury, first aid, emergency procedures, and child or adolescent psychology
- Ability to work positively with athletes, parents, community, and coaching staff, building and sustaining a winning athletic program
- Excellent communication and organizational skills, with ability to establish partnerships with local businesses and community
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will regularly be exposed to outside weather conditions and moderate to loud noise levels.
