Patient Care Assistant/CNA, Hematology

We are seeking a skilled Patient Care Assistant/CNA to join our team in the Hematology & Cellular Therapy department at The University of Kansas Health System.
Job Summary:The Patient Care Assistant/CNA will provide high-quality patient care and support to patients undergoing treatment for malignant hematology and blood and marrow transplant patients. This role requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:- Provide basic nursing skills, including vital signs, pulse oximetry, finger stick blood glucose, ADLs, and recording intake and output.
- Collect urine, stool, and sputum specimens, and apply/remove compression hose, SCDs, and other medical devices as needed.
- Empty drains, urinary catheters, NG tubes, and ostomies, and maintain a safe patient environment.
- Document patient information, including vital signs, I&O, and percentage of meals eaten, in a timely and accurate manner.
- Participate in hourly rounds, answer call lights promptly, and demonstrate proper hand hygiene, standard precautions, and isolation principles.
- Care for patients in restraints, including ROM and fluids/toileting, and reorient confused patients.
- Promptly notify the RN of any changes in patient condition, including vital signs, mental status, or skin integrity.
- High School Graduate or GED
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) within 14 days
- Certified Nursing Assistant / Aide - CNA - State Department for Aging and Disability Services (Health Occupations Credentialing)
- OR Medical Assistant Diploma OR Documentation of Fundamentals of Nursing Course verifying required basic skills (required at time of hire)
- OR Minimum of 18 months in a specialty tech position OR Completion of the Gold Standard Intern Program/Acute Care School with University of Kansas Health System
