The Department of Plant Pathology in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences is a leading center for fungal disease research and education. Our faculty and staff are dedicated to understanding the complex interactions between plants and pathogens, and to developing effective strategies for managing fungal diseases.
About the Job
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Fungal Disease Research Scientist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting research on detecting and understanding the mechanisms of fungicide resistance in Alternaria sp. in brassica, Colletotrichum sp. and Fusarium sp. in cucurbits. This will involve working closely with key industry stakeholders, training undergraduate and graduate students, synthesizing data, presenting results at local and national conferences, and preparing scientific manuscripts for publication.
Responsibilities
- Conduct research on detecting and understanding the mechanisms of fungicide resistance in Alternaria sp. in brassica, Colletotrichum sp. and Fusarium sp. in cucurbits.
- Work closely with key industry stakeholders, including farmers, distributors, and other stakeholders.
- Train undergraduate and graduate students in research methods and techniques.
- Synthesize data and present results at local and national conferences.
- Prepare scientific manuscripts for publication.
Requirements
The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Plant Pathology or a related field, and at least 2 years of postdoctoral research experience. They will also have a strong background in fungal disease research, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Salary and Benefits
The salary for this position will be $58,656 per year. The University of Georgia offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
