Counselor - Dual Credit and Early College High Schools

El Paso Community College Cafe is seeking a skilled Counselor to provide student educational and career services, goal setting, program selection, and vocational choices in accordance with the philosophy and objectives of the College. The ideal candidate will have a Master's degree in Counseling or a related field and experience as a professional counselor. The Counselor will assist students with academic and transfer advising, goal setting, career exploration, program selection, crisis intervention, and vocational choices. The Counselor will also assist in training Independent School District (ISD) Secondary Education Counselors working with Dual-Credit/Early College programs and collaborate with ISD Secondary Education Counselors in advising and guiding students. The Counselor will act as a liaison with ISDs to provide information on programs, services, and registration to accomplish the mission and goals of both institutions. The Counselor will also teach classes and seminars in the area of human development and academic success and participate in implementing a counseling program to assist students in resolving institutional conflicts. The Counselor will prepare and audit degree plans, transfer credit evaluations, and student petitions, to ensure EPCC graduation requirements. The Counselor will also prepare routine correspondence and maintain student records required by the College. The Counselor will act as a liaison with faculty, departments, and local agencies to provide information on programs, services, and registration. The Counselor will assist in training staff and dual credit stakeholders and participate on committees. The Counselor will work with faculty to accomplish the goals of the department, discipline, and the College. The Counselor will also assist with such activities as collection and interpretation of research as requested or required. The Counselor will contribute to the governance of the College through active service by participating in meetings and committees. The Counselor will participate in faculty orientation sessions and professional development seminar activities. The Counselor will be responsible for professional development, awareness, and growth. The Counselor will acknowledge and support the College's Mission and Objectives. The Counselor will perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a Master's degree in Counseling or a related field and experience as a professional counselor. The candidate must be fully qualified for the position at the time of application. The candidate must have experience/ability to work as a counselor at the community college level and experience/ability to incorporate technology into the counseling environment. The candidate must also have a strong understanding of the College's mission and objectives and be able to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
Special Conditions
This is a security-sensitive position as defined under the Texas Education Code, Section 51.215. The successful applicant will be required to undergo a criminal background check, as permitted and/or required by applicable law, and in accordance with the College's policies and procedures. The position is a tenure-track position with an annual academic year employment contract leading toward tenure consideration during the fifth year of employment. The salary listed is for a nine-month assignment, and additional addendum days and summer assignment are optional.

Copies of transcripts must reflect completed coursework and conferred degrees. All academic coursework and degrees must be from an accredited college or university or be certified by an acceptable agency that the institution is recognized by the appropriate governmental agency in its home country. Transcripts issued in a language other than English must be accompanied by a full translation by a current member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES). Each foreign transcript must be evaluated for equivalency to United States accredited coursework. Applications containing foreign transcripts that are not accompanied with the above required documentation will not be considered. Out-of-town candidates invited for an on-campus interview will be reimbursed for one-half of the transportation cost for travel performed within the United States. The College will arrange and pay for up to two nights lodging.
