As a Substitute Nurse in the Health Services department of the Carlisle Area School District, you will play a vital role in ensuring the health and well-being of students in grades K-12. This is a unique opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of students and contribute to the success of our school community.
Key Responsibilities- Health Screenings: Organize, perform, and supervise state-mandated health and wellness screenings for students, ensuring accurate and timely results.
- Student Care: Provide care for students who are ill or injured, charting daily care and recording all care provided in a thorough and accurate manner.
- Health Records: Maintain comprehensive health records on all students, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with district policies.
- Physical Exams: Assist the physician and dentist with state-mandated physical exams, including those for athletes, ensuring accurate and timely completion.
- Health Education: Serve as a resource for classroom teachers and the community regarding health and wellness education, growth and maturity, personal hygiene, dental care, and other related topics.
- HIV and Health Topics: Provide information and instruction on HIV or other health topics as required and/or mandated, ensuring accurate and sensitive communication.
- Medication Administration: Administer medication according to school district policy, ensuring accurate and timely administration.
- Supply Management: Order supplies and maintain an inventory for each health room, ensuring efficient and effective use of resources.
- Reporting: Complete and submit all reports requested by the PA Department of Health and/or the district, ensuring accurate and timely completion.
- Team Collaboration: Serve as a member on the Student Assistance Team and the Code Blue Team, working collaboratively with colleagues to ensure student success.
- Family Communication: Locate families and communicate health care needs of students, ensuring accurate and timely communication.
- Individualized Care: Write individual health care plans and/or sections of individual education plans, as necessary, ensuring accurate and sensitive communication.
- Health Clinics: Provide health immunization clinics as assigned, ensuring accurate and timely completion.
- Staff Communication: Maintain communication with staff regarding the special, physical, and medical needs of students, ensuring accurate and timely communication.
- Registered Nurse: Must be a registered nurse with a valid license to practice in the state of Pennsylvania.
- CPR Certification: Must possess a valid CPR certificate.
- Pre-Employment Medical Examination: Must submit a pre-employment medical examination (Section 148 of the Pennsylvania School Code).
- Criminal History Record: Must submit a report of criminal history record from the Pennsylvania State Police (Section 111 of the Pennsylvania School Code).
- Clearance Reports: Must submit clearance reports from the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare in accordance with Act 151 of 1994 and the Arrest/Conviction Report and Certification Form as required under Act 24 of 2011.
- Physical Ability: Ability to reach above and below the waist, use fingers to pick, feel, and grasp objects, and perform some stooping, bending, kneeling, and twisting of the body.
- Lifting and Carrying: Ability to lift and/or carry supplies and/or papers weighing no more than 20 lbs.
- Standing and Walking: Ability to stand for extended periods of time with some walking or moving throughout the building.
- Visual Acuity: Must possess good visual acuity.
- Auditory Acuity: Must possess good auditory acuity.
- Nursing Office Environment: Typical nursing office environment with some exposure to hazardous materials, body fluids, or disease.
- Interpersonal Skills: Must possess excellent interpersonal skills.
- Judgment and Stress: Must be able to make judgments and work under high levels of stress.
- Communication: Ability to communicate effectively.
- Organization: Ability to organize tasks.
- Task Management: Ability to handle multiple tasks.
- Judgment: Ability to exercise good judgment.
- Computer Skills: Must possess computer skills.
- Nursing Equipment: Ability to operate various nursing equipment.
