Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and certified lifeguard to join our team at the YMCA of Superior CA. As a lifeguard, you will be responsible for maintaining a safe and positive atmosphere in the pool area, ensuring the well-being of our members and participants.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular surveillance of the pool area to identify potential hazards and take corrective action as needed.
  • Respond to emergency situations promptly and effectively, following YMCA policies and procedures.
  • Maintain effective relationships with members, participants, and staff, providing excellent customer service.
  • Ensure compliance with safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
  • Perform equipment checks and ensure that necessary equipment is available.
  • Conduct chemical testing and take appropriate action as required.
  • Attend all staff meetings and in-service training sessions.

Requirements:

  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid.
  • Current YMCA lifeguarding or Red Cross Lifeguarding certification.
  • Oxygen Administration certification.
  • Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness.
  • Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to pass lifeguard water test.
  • Must be able to remain alert and focused.
  • Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Adequate ability to hear noises and distinguish distress signals.
  • Ability to continuously scan all areas of the pool with clear vision.
  • Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for a water rescue.
  • Ability to communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and loud situations.
