Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Special Education Assistant to join our team at Alaska Teacher Placement. As a Special Education Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with intensive needs in a dynamic and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct support to students with intensive needs, working closely with teachers to develop and implement individualized education plans.
  • Assist students with academic and functional skills, including reading, writing, and math, as well as daily living skills and social interactions.
  • Collaborate with teachers and other support staff to ensure a comprehensive and coordinated approach to student support.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff to ensure a positive and supportive learning environment.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in special education and related areas.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in special education or a related field preferred.
  • First aid and CPR certification required.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, parents, and staff in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with students with intensive needs, including those with autism, developmental disabilities, or other special needs.
  • Knowledge of special education laws and regulations, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
  • Ability to use technology, including educational software and digital tools, to support student learning and communication.
  • Fluency in a second language, including American Sign Language (ASL), preferred.
