About the Role:

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) plays a vital part in supporting patient care needs on the inpatient med/surg rehab unit at UnityPoint Health. Working collaboratively with providers, nursing, and patient care techs, the CMA contributes to delivering exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess patient status through interview, observation, and physical assessment, as delegated by the nurse.
  • Assist the nurse in developing an individualized plan of care using a collaborative approach with the patient/family and healthcare team.
  • Implement appropriate interventions identified in the plan of care to achieve expected patient outcomes.
  • Systematically evaluate and document patient progress toward expected outcomes/goals on an ongoing basis throughout the shift, as directed by the nurse.
  • Modify the plan of care based on evaluation, as directed by the nurse.
  • Complete required documentation, including patient charting and event reports.

Requirements:

  • High School graduate or GED equivalent and graduate of an accredited program for Medical Assistants, graduate of a registered apprenticeship program with 2 years of clinical experience, or graduate of an online program or on-the-job training program with 3 years of clinical experience.
  • Current certification as a Certified Medical Assistant.
  • Writes, reads, comprehends, and speaks fluent English.
  • Multicultural sensitivity, customer/patient-focused.
  • Microsoft Office - basic computer skills.
  • Critical thinking skills using independent judgment in making decisions.
