About The Unit
The Bone Marrow Transplant unit is dedicated to providing exceptional stem cell transplants, having successfully completed over 7,000 procedures. Stem cells are critical in treating various hematological malignancies, including leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma. Our patients undergo intensive chemotherapy to eliminate their immune systems, followed by the administration of healthy stem cells, sourced either from themselves or from donors.
We are at the forefront of CAR-T cell therapy, a cutting-edge immunotherapy that utilizes T-cells from the patient's immune system, which are cultivated and reinfused back into the patient. We are proud to be among the few centers in the United States offering all FDA-approved CAR-T cell therapies.
Patients receiving stem cell transplants and CAR-T cell therapies remain with us until their new immune systems are established. We also provide chemotherapy regimens tailored to various hematological cancers. To enhance cancer treatment knowledge, we administer clinical trial protocols and offer comprehensive supportive care throughout the patient's cancer journey.
Job Responsibilities:

- Act as a resource for colleagues and advocate for patients and their families, ensuring effective communication with all stakeholders.
- Deliver safe and effective nursing care independently, employing the nursing process and demonstrating strong assessment skills.
- Independently plan and implement patient care, incorporating patient and family input into care strategies.
- Manage time efficiently while recognizing the contributions of the interdisciplinary team and family members in patient care planning.
- Use resources judiciously with an emphasis on cost-effectiveness.
- Exhibit strong listening abilities and reduce communication barriers, employing conflict resolution skills as needed.
- Acknowledge cultural differences in patient interactions and adapt care approaches accordingly.
- Maintain confidentiality and take personal responsibility for professional growth and development.
- Continuously evaluate and enhance patient care documentation processes, utilizing feedback mechanisms to identify areas for improvement.
- Graduate from an accredited nursing program with a minimum of 12 months of recent nursing experience. A valid, active nursing license or temporary permit approved by the Georgia Licensing Board is required. BLS certification is mandatory, and ACLS may be necessary in specific departments.
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and carry objects weighing up to 35 lbs. Frequent standing and walking are required, with occasional sitting and close visual work.
- Exposure to various environmental conditions may occur, including blood-borne pathogens, biohazardous waste, and communicable diseases. Use of personal protective equipment is essential.
