Job Summary:
The Mammography Technologist is responsible for providing quality patient care and delivering high-quality imaging examinations. This role requires clinical competence, facilitating an ongoing continuous quality control/improvement process of the services offered.
Responsibilities:
- Communication – Interdepartmental – Communicating with other departments via intercom, phone, fax, computer.
- Communication – Patient/Family/Significant Other – Providing to patients/families/significant others the responses/interventions that relate to their plan of care or treatment, i.e., explaining of procedures, treatment, schedules, cost, etc.
- Treatments and/or Procedures – Performing any mammographic diagnosing procedure for a patient.
- Maintenance and Records – Reporting any issues and concerns with the mammography equipment to the QC Technologist and/or Manager. Knowing how to contact support if the QC tech and/or Manager are not available (during off shifts). Being able to perform the QC for the bone density machine.
- Patient Care – Providing high-quality mammography examinations and technical procedures. Selecting proper technical factors, based on diagnosis, age, and adhering to departmental protocols. Operating equipment efficiently, completing exams without undue delays. Practicing the code of ethics of Radiologic Technology. Assessing and maintaining knowledge of the patients condition and responding to changes appropriately.
- Documentation – Documenting on the patient care and equipment records. Performing all clerical duties related to the completion of the diagnostic procedure as directed.
- Teaching – Participating in the education of departmental personnel on quality assurance and other advances in the profession.
- Will assist the radiologist/surgeon in performing mammotome biopsies and/or needle localization of the breast.
Qualifications:
- Preferred of one year technical experience. Preferred one year of mammography experience.
- Graduate of AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology program.
- Registered by the A.R.R.T. in Radiologic Technology and Mammography.
- Valid New York State Radiographic license from the Department of Health.
- ARRT(M) certification is mandated by ACR accreditation. Mammography Registry (AART [M]) will be obtaining within one year of hire date.
