Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Psychiatrist Physician to join our team at the Department of Veterans Affairs. As a Psychiatrist Physician, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the well-being of our nation's veterans.

Key Responsibilities
  • Screen, evaluate, and admit or enroll patients to psychiatry programs.
  • Provide a full spectrum of diagnostic, treatment, and rehabilitation services in a safe and dignified setting.
  • Order diagnostic studies, evaluate results, and prescribe appropriate pharmaceutical agents.
  • Provide psychiatric on-call coverage and consultation-liaison services as assigned.
  • Conduct complete psychiatric evaluations, including mental status evaluations.
  • Prescribe medications, including Buprenorphine and Clozapine, as needed.
  • Monitor and record patient progress, obtain consent for hospitalization, tests, and medications, and carry out health promotion and disease prevention activities.
  • Provide education and counseling to patients and families on preventive care, medical conditions, and treatment options.
  • Write orders and notes in the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) and administer and document Suicide Risk Assessments.
  • Perform other delegated tasks as directed by supervising chiefs.
Requirements
  • United States citizenship or non-citizenship with a valid work visa.
  • Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training in psychiatry or a related field from an accredited program.
  • Board certification in psychiatry or a related field is preferred.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Continuing Medical Education (CME) related to psychiatry.
  • Experience with Buprenorphine prescribing.
  • Enrollment in the VHA Clozapine Registry.
  • Ability to use telemental health equipment.
