About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Custodian to join our team at West Michigan Academy of Environmental Science. As a Custodian, you will play a critical role in maintaining a safe and healthy environment for our students and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine daily cleaning and disinfecting of the school, including vacuuming, dusting, mopping, and using an automatic floor scrubber.
  • Ensure the school's buildings and premises are kept neat and clean at all times, including walkways, parking lot, and play areas.
  • Check daily to ensure exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during building occupancy.
  • Sweep or vacuum classrooms daily and dust furniture.
  • Clean corridors after school and during the day as needed.
  • Disinfect bathroom floors and clean sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily.
  • Wash windows on the inside and outside at least twice a year and more frequently as needed.
  • Keep the grounds free from rubbish and maintain all floors in a clean and attractive condition.
  • Clean chalkboards and marker boards weekly.
  • Report major repairs needed to the Administrator promptly.
  • Remain on school property during assigned school hours.
  • Move furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the Administrator.
  • Comply with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste.
  • Assume responsibility for the safe condition of outdoor structures.
Qualifications
  • Minimum Requirements:
    • Must be at least 18 years of age.
    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Demonstrate aptitude and competence for assigned responsibilities.
    • Ability to work effectively with school personnel and students in a diverse school community.
    • Solid record of punctuality.
    • Willing to be trained.
    • Reliable and team-oriented.
  • Desired Requirements:
    • Previous custodial experience a plus.
    • Custodial experience in a school setting.
    • Knowledge of and skills working with At-Risk students.
