Role Responsibilities:
The Cleaning Specialist is tasked with ensuring the overall cleanliness and hygiene of the facility, providing a welcoming and sanitary environment for all members.

Compensation:
$13.50 per hour

Work Schedule:
Mornings, Monday to Friday, from 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM

Key Duties Include:

  • Maintaining cleanliness throughout all areas of the facility and grounds.
  • Performing tasks such as mopping, sweeping, cleaning mirrors and windows, disinfecting restrooms, snow removal, and salting sidewalks.
  • Executing deep cleaning assignments as needed.
  • Carrying out heavy-duty cleaning tasks, including scrubbing floors and cleaning locker rooms.
  • Organizing and maintaining cleaning supplies and equipment, reporting any damages or low stock to the supervisor.
  • Responding promptly to emergency cleaning situations while adhering to safety protocols.
  • Following established emergency procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Complying with all policies and regulations as outlined in the employee handbook and other communications.
  • Ensuring the security of the building and property during shifts, reporting any incidents or hazardous conditions.
  • Cleaning up biohazard materials, with training provided.
  • Operating motorized cleaning equipment.
  • Accepting additional responsibilities as assigned within the scope of the role.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Dependable with a strong work ethic.
  • Previous experience in janitorial or cleaning roles is preferred.
  • Proficient in speaking, reading, and writing in English.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to obtain CPR/AED/First Aid certification within 45 days of employment, with training provided by the Valparaiso Family YMCA.

Work Environment:
Ability to work in diverse environments, including areas with varying temperatures, humidity, and outdoor conditions.

Physical Requirements:
Must possess the physical stamina to perform job duties, including extended periods of standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 35 pounds.
