Job Summary

The INTO OSU - Intensive English Program is seeking applications for one or more fixed-term, non-tenure track full/part-time ESL Educator positions to instruct on a term-by-term basis throughout the academic year. Reappointment is contingent upon the discretion of the Director. Some of these roles may be eligible for renewal or transition to a more permanent instructional position annually at the discretion of the Director.

This role involves teaching English and English for Academic Purposes to international students across various programs. The INTO OSU instructional mission serves four distinct student populations: Academic English Program (IEP) students, Undergraduate and Graduate Pathways students, and Special Programs students.

Applications submitted to this recruitment pool will be reviewed as needed. Qualified candidates will be contacted when positions become available throughout the academic year. Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities outlined below are guidelines and may vary:

80% - Teaching ESL to International Students
  • Responsibilities include teaching across all programs, levels, and subject areas, including advanced reading and writing in both credit and non-credit courses.
  • May involve teaching language, cultural awareness, and study skills to students preparing for future university studies, as well as students in customized courses.
  • Teaching will utilize Learning Management Systems (LMS) and other available technologies. Instructors typically teach 18 contact hours per week in an 11-week term, which includes ten weeks of instruction and one week of assessment. A typical teaching load may include a combination of levels and skill courses, potentially including two reading/writing courses. This may be subject to change based on enrollment patterns.
10% - Service and Professional Development
  • Maintain current knowledge in the field and share expertise with colleagues both within and outside the center. Professional development may include participation in staff training and professional enrichment days, as well as presenting at conferences.
  • Provide service to programs and students at INTO OSU and the university. Service may involve participation in committees.

Qualifications Required
  • MA in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), Education, or Composition.
  • Proven excellence in ESL teaching with a minimum of two years of relevant full-time experience.
  • Demonstrated engaging and culturally sensitive teaching abilities.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work productively and respectfully with all OSU and INTO OSU faculty, staff, and students.
  • Ability to engage effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, including the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Professional demeanor in all interactions.
  • Advanced English language skills typically demonstrated through the completion of a Bachelor's and Master's degree in English.
  • Proficient in standard software for creating professional documents and presentations.
  • Interest in ongoing professional development.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated excellence in ESL teaching with at least four years of relevant experience (including two years in an IEP).
  • Experience teaching in a large university academic preparation program, with international teaching experience in addition to U.S. experience.
  • Experience in curriculum and assessment development.
  • Interest and expertise in Technology Enhanced Language Learning (TELL) tools.
