Job Summary

This position is located in Grand Canyon National Park, within the Science and Resource Management Division. The purpose of this role is to monitor construction activities resulting in ground disturbance as a consequence of the rehabilitation, modification, and replacement of the park's Transcanyon waterline, associated infrastructure development, staging areas, and road access development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement archaeological projects involving documentary, archival, and collections research; field investigations (both survey and excavation); laboratory analysis of recovered data; and professional report writing.
  • Utilize GIS technology to provide comprehensive and scientifically sound answers, incorporating automatic methods of data collection, analysis, or illustration.
  • Maintain a site-specific database for the park.
  • Plan and execute archaeological investigations required to meet NHPA, ARPA, NPS guidelines, and NAGPRA.
  • May carry out program management activities by developing work plans and schedules.
Requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
  • Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronic Funds Transfer Program.
  • May be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of official duties.
  • Must wear a uniform and comply with National Park Service uniform standards.
  • May be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and shift work.
  • Must complete a one-year trial period.
  • May be required to travel overnight away from home up to 16 nights per month.
Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:

  • At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service, including planning and conducting archeological resource surveys, preparing archeological survey reports, and evaluating the significance of archeological resources.
  • Successful completion of at least two years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or a master's in archeology or equivalent graduate degree.
  • Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above.
Education

To qualify based on education, applicants must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution, including their name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking.
