Job Summary:
The Commercial Diver - Underwater Ship Husbandry Specialist performs a range of tasks supporting Phoenix International Holdings Underwater Ship Husbandry (UWSH) operations on commercial ships. This position is responsible for tasks including ship hull, bottom, and propeller cleanings, underwater hull surveys for classification societies, propeller repair, ship thruster exchanges and maintenance, underwater wet and dry chamber welding, and other related tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accomplish tasks as assigned by the Diving Supervisor.
- Comply with established Phoenix QMS processes and procedures.
- Comply with applicable government regulations related to their qualifications or performance while engaging in diving operations.
- Comply with regulations or instructions concerning the use, maintenance, repair, and testing of all diving equipment provided for the operation.
- Report any recent medical treatment or illness so that a proper determination can be made concerning fitness to dive.
- Report defects or malfunctions of diving equipment provided for the diving operation.
- Ensure personal diving equipment has been correctly maintained, prepared, and tested before each dive.
- Follow safe diving practice at all times during the diving operation whether on deck or in the water.
- Bring to the attention of the Diving Supervisor any questionable items.
- Be alert for the safety of others.
- Know and observe the rules for flying after diving or traveling to altitudes higher than the dive site.
- Possess and maintain a diver's logbook that provides a record of all dives, medical examinations, courses taken, and personal equipment maintenance.
- Ensure medical certificates are up to date and recorded in their logbook.
- Present their logbook to the Diving Supervisor on every job.
- Maintain current certification in First Aid and CPR.
- Complete administrative office duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Graduate of a professional diving school.
- Minimum of five years actual diving experience in commercial UWSH activities, including as a minimum hull cleaning and survey and propeller cleanings and polishing.
- Experience with propeller repair, thruster repair, and exchanges desired but not required for entry-level.
- Significant physical effort required.
- U.S. Government security clearance desired.
- Must be able to pass annual diving physical.
- Must be able, and willing, to travel worldwide on short notice for indefinite periods of time.
- Must possess a current Passport, ADCI Card, and TWIC Card.
- Must successfully pass background check and drug/alcohol testing.
