The Senior Security Officer performs advanced security operations.

This role is the highest level of security personnel and assists the Security Supervisor in achieving departmental objectives.

Responsibilities include monitoring premises, conducting preliminary investigations, and offering guidance and assistance to patients, staff, and visitors.

Additional tasks involve temporary switchboard responsibilities, such as managing the hospital telephone system, fire alarm protocols, and emergency communication lines.

This position operates with minimal supervision, allowing for significant initiative and independent decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:

Regular attendance is expected, with potential requirements for specific shift schedules, rotating shifts, and overtime as per agency policies.


Conducts patrols of the facility to identify and address unusual activities such as trespassing, vandalism, and emergencies.

Oversees and directs the daily functions and performance of junior security staff as necessary.

Adjusts the daily operations of security personnel assigned to shifts to ensure departmental goals are met, in line with the directives from the security supervisor based on available tasks and personnel.


Ensures the safety of the facility by monitoring access points, assisting visitors, and safeguarding buildings and equipment. Responsible for documenting incidents and events occurring on the premises.

Performs temporary switchboard duties as required.

Handles incoming calls and communications from dispatch, including fire alarm notifications and emergency response lines.


Monitors access points to prevent unauthorized exits. Investigates and records unusual occurrences such as thefts, fires, vehicle incidents, and weather-related events.

In the absence of the Security Supervisor, takes on administrative responsibilities such as scheduling and report reviews.

Represents the security division in meetings and events as directed by the Security Supervisor or Directors.

Responds to fire alarms, assesses the situation, and resets alarms as necessary.

During fire emergencies, assists the fire department in accessing the facility to minimize impact on staff and patients.

Provides crisis intervention when needed, aiding staff in managing disruptive individuals and escorting them off the premises.


Operates state vehicles for transporting patients, employees, and visitors as required.

Maintains inspection records to ensure the safe operation of vehicles.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Familiarity with alarm systems

Understanding of traffic and parking regulations

Knowledge of emergency response protocols

Proficient interpersonal skills for interaction with patients, staff, and the public

Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce clear security incident reports

Capability to patrol grounds, identify incidents, and take appropriate action

Ability to respond quickly and calmly in emergencies

Physical capability to walk or stand for extended periods

Valid driver's license and ability to operate a wheelchair van.
