Job Description:

Rolling Hills Country Club is seeking a Part-Time Pastry Assistant to support the Pastry Chef.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Execute pastry preparations for both restaurant service and special events.
  • Work effectively in a high-volume environment, managing sales of $5-$6 million.
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of food products and apply culinary techniques proficiently.
  • Contribute innovative ideas for menu development and food presentation.
  • Ensure that all products meet the highest standards of quality, freshness, and presentation.
  • Assist in the baking and preparation of menu items according to established specifications.
  • Under the guidance of the Pastry Chef, oversee the work of pastry cooks and ensure proper food preparation and storage.
  • Train and mentor team members in the correct preparation of menu items and the use of kitchen equipment.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment in compliance with health department standards.
  • Exhibit professionalism and take initiative in performing assigned duties.
  • Foster teamwork and professionalism within the kitchen staff.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures by all staff members.
  • Perform additional tasks as directed by the Executive Chef.
Qualifications:
  • This is a part-time hourly position.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Culinary Arts degree preferred.
  • Experience in fine dining establishments is advantageous.
  • Possession of a Food Handlers License.
  • Proficient in various pastry techniques, including sugar work, classical French pastries, breads, and modern desserts.
  • Knowledgeable about food allergies and food safety practices.
  • Demonstrated commitment to enhancing member and guest service.
  • Understanding of menu pricing and budgeting processes.
  • Familiarity with state laws and regulations regarding food service.
  • Ability to monitor team performance and areas for improvement.
  • Strong listening, critical thinking, and communication skills.
Licenses and Certifications:
  • California Food Handlers Certification/Food Safety Certification.
Physical Demands:
  • Ability to work in a hot, humid, and fast-paced environment.
  • Capable of meeting the physical demands of the role, including frequent lifting and standing.
Education and Experience:
  • Preferred experience in private club settings.
  • Culinary Degree or Bachelor's preferred.
