Summary:
The Practical Nursing Specialist (LPN) coordinates and delivers nursing care for residents while providing supervision and guidance to clinical staff members primarily on weekends.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Graduate of an accredited LPN/LVN nursing program.
- Valid LPN/LVN license in the state of employment.
- Valid CPR certification.
- One year of nursing experience preferred.
- Documents the resident's condition and nursing requirements.
- Accurately and promptly executes physicians' orders.
- Assigns nursing care to team members based on the resident's needs and the individual's capabilities and qualifications.
- Supervises, directs, and evaluates junior staff members and CNAs.
- Administers medications and performs treatments for assigned residents, documenting that treatment as required by company and local, state, and federal regulations.
- Participates in orientation and in-service training for personnel.
- Ensures that supplies are utilized efficiently and that equipment is clean and maintained safely.
- Reports and records relevant observations and reactions regarding residents.
- Coordinates nursing care of residents scheduled for therapy or procedures by other departments.
- Interviews applicants and recommends hires. Participates in counseling, disciplinary actions, and termination of staff, as permitted by state practice act.
- Supervises the nursing unit, which includes scheduling and directing the nursing staff as permitted by state practice act.
- Ensures that inventory and supplies are maintained on the unit and communicates needs for housekeeping, maintenance, or dietary assistance.
- Performs other tasks as assigned.
- Skilled in directing and motivating the workforce.
- Ability to work collaboratively as a team member.
- Ability to communicate effectively with residents and their family members, as well as at all organizational levels.
- Ability to react decisively and swiftly in emergency situations.
- Knowledge of training techniques for clinical staff.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
