Summary:
The Practical Nursing Specialist (LPN) coordinates and delivers nursing care for residents while providing supervision and guidance to clinical staff members primarily on weekends.

Qualifications:

Education:
  • Graduate of an accredited LPN/LVN nursing program.
Licenses/Certification:
  • Valid LPN/LVN license in the state of employment.
  • Valid CPR certification.
Experience:
  • One year of nursing experience preferred.
Job Functions:
  • Documents the resident's condition and nursing requirements.
  • Accurately and promptly executes physicians' orders.
  • Assigns nursing care to team members based on the resident's needs and the individual's capabilities and qualifications.
  • Supervises, directs, and evaluates junior staff members and CNAs.
  • Administers medications and performs treatments for assigned residents, documenting that treatment as required by company and local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Participates in orientation and in-service training for personnel.
  • Ensures that supplies are utilized efficiently and that equipment is clean and maintained safely.
  • Reports and records relevant observations and reactions regarding residents.
  • Coordinates nursing care of residents scheduled for therapy or procedures by other departments.
  • Interviews applicants and recommends hires. Participates in counseling, disciplinary actions, and termination of staff, as permitted by state practice act.
  • Supervises the nursing unit, which includes scheduling and directing the nursing staff as permitted by state practice act.
  • Ensures that inventory and supplies are maintained on the unit and communicates needs for housekeeping, maintenance, or dietary assistance.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Skilled in directing and motivating the workforce.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a team member.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with residents and their family members, as well as at all organizational levels.
  • Ability to react decisively and swiftly in emergency situations.
  • Knowledge of training techniques for clinical staff.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
