The Airborne Systems Division, part of the Defense Group at Leidos, is currently seeking a Structural Engineer to provide essential support for our Air Force Base clientele. This role presents an exciting opportunity to leverage your expertise in advancing the Air Force Research Labs (AFRL) Rapid Technology Development and Demonstrations (RTD2) initiative. As a Structural Engineer, your responsibilities will include supporting AFRL programs to develop and implement new and innovative technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Formulate solutions to structural analysis challenges for aircraft payloads and podded configurations utilizing both composite and metallic materials.
- Conduct structural analysis employing classical techniques and advanced commercial software.
- Evaluate and refine finite element models using Femap and NASTRAN.
- Produce detailed structural substantiation reports outlining methodologies and safety margins.
- Assist Mechanical Engineering teams with design and integration tasks.
- Independently research and explore structural design alternatives.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with 4 years of experience, or a Master's degree in a related field with 2 years of experience; alternatively, 4 additional years of relevant experience may substitute for a Bachelor's degree.
- Proficiency in using Femap and NASTRAN.
- Must be a U.S. citizen with the capability to obtain a DoD Secret level security clearance.
- Experience with CAD tools, technical drawings, and fundamental modeling techniques.
- Familiarity with standard hand tools (screwdrivers, drills, wrenches).
- Experience in analyzing composite materials.
- Experience with Creo software.
- Knowledge of ASME Y14.100 and Y14.5 drawing standards.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes.
- Familiarity with fatigue analysis methodologies.
- Experience applying CFD pressure maps in finite element analysis.
- Basic knowledge of Thermal Analysis.
