The Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford Inc is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Club Director to lead our youth programs and services. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring age-appropriate programs and services are provided in a safe and nurturing environment, helping youth advance in three core focus areas: academic success, healthy lifestyles, and good character & citizenship.
Key Responsibilities- Establish Clubhouse program objectives consistent with organizational goals, mission, and vision.
- Oversee the provision of day-to-day program activities per established standards and goals, utilizing Boys & Girls Clubs of America's formula for impact.
- Ensure proper data collection and accurate reporting on program and service delivery and outcomes.
- Ensure members are encouraged to participate in a variety of program areas/activities and receive instruction and constructive feedback to develop skills in program area(s).
- Recruit, onboard, manage, and provide career development opportunities for club staff, interns, and volunteers.
- Conduct ongoing performance evaluations of staff, while coaching and counseling to improve performance and outcomes. Create development plans and goals to assist with continued career growth and advancement.
- Observe and recommend training and shadowing opportunities for staff to help them advance their skills and future potential.
- Ensure a productive work environment that encourages positive, effective working relationships and open communications, and is respectful of the gender and cultural diversity of Club staff, volunteers, and members. Take prompt, appropriate action to respond to conflicts between staff members.
- Ensure a crisis management strategy is in place and up to date and ensure emergency procedures are practiced on a schedule set by Operations.
- Ensure a healthy, fun, and safe environment by ensuring facilities, equipment, and supplies are maintained.
- Demonstrate positive values, and ethical behavior at all times and during all interactions.
- Attend and actively participate in Club Director meetings and look for opportunities to work across Clubs, share ideas and best practices, and support one another for shared success.
- Maintain close, daily contact with Club professional staff to ensure alignment with organizational mission and program objectives and standards. Discuss issues, and provide/receive information.
- Maintain regular contact with members as needed to coach, advise, and counsel.
- Work with staff and families to deal effectively with young club members including disciplinary issues.
- Serve as both an advocate and coordinator between the Club and external community partners, schools, parents, and others to develop opportunities for youth, volunteer engagement, curriculum partnerships, and more.
- Develop and maintain public relations to promote awareness of the Club and stimulate interest in Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford.
- Stay current on nonprofit and local industry and community trends that may impact the Club and/or our programming.
- Contribute to operational strategic planning, providing perspective on Club operations, employee development and member needs to support strategic direction.
- Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate overall programs, services, and activities to ensure they meet member needs and interests.
- Develop recommendations for improvement of procedures, systems, and programs and share those with the Director of Program Services.
- Identify opportunities to prioritize and evolve relationships with community partners, organizations, and parents in a way that benefits our youth and the Club as a whole and helps us move toward our desired future state.
- Be proactive in planning for and communicating hiring needs and departures.
- Conduct regular staff meetings to share information, encourage two-way communication, and prompt staff to share ideas.
- Recruit, maintain, and hold monthly community and/or parent council meetings.
- Develop collaborative partnerships with other Clubs, consultants, and vendors, as well as youth-serving, professional, and/or nonprofit organizations, to maintain professional visibility and credibility within the community.
- Work with full-time staff to create effective outreach programs to increase membership enrollment.
- In partnership with Club leadership, build a network of stakeholders and partners who can provide knowledge, skills development, and experiential learning opportunities for members.
- Oversee and implement all assigned grants pertaining to the Club site.
- Work with Finance to prepare and implement the annual budget, adjusting as needed throughout the year to control expenditures against the budget.
- Ensure administrative and operational systems are in place to maintain the operation of the Club's physical properties and equipment, including the use of facilities by outside groups. Ensure compliance with organization policies.
- Research, evaluate, and propose new equipment and resources to enhance the Clubhouse.
- Maintain Clubs' building including interior and exterior maintenance.
- Perform other program and organization-related assignments as services and needs change, evolve, and grow.
- Transport youth in BGCH vehicles as required.
- Plan and implement special events and initiatives.
- Facilitate programming as needed.
- Attend all required training.
- Other responsibilities as needed.
Supervisory Responsibility
Manages all full-time staff in the Clubhouse. May manage volunteers and interns including parent volunteers.
Expected Hours of Work
- September - early June: Monday through Friday 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm
- Late June - August: Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
- Occasional morning, evening, and weekend work will be required as job duties demand
- Work may require local and occasional distant overnight travel.

Requirements
- Four-year degree from an accredited college or university or the equivalent work experience which is two years for every one year of college (8 years)
- A minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience
- Demonstrated ability in facilities management
- Ability to train, supervise, and motivate staff
- Experience recruiting, interviewing, completing performance appraisals, and coaching employees
- Excellent communication and writing skills
- Flexibility, patience, tolerance, and a willingness to learn new skills
- Computer proficiency including Microsoft Office products
- CPR & First Aid certification
- PSL endorsement on a valid CT driver's license is required or must be obtained within six months of employment
- Ability to travel in and outside of the state for training or program
- Must have a strong sense of child safety
- Working knowledge of budget preparation, control, and management preferred
- Bilingual skills in both English and Spanish a plus
