About the Role:

We are seeking an experimental quantum physicist or engineer to join our dynamic team at Jacobs, supporting our customer in the national capital region. In this position, you'll be part of a team conducting fundamental and applied quantum optics research addressing unique challenges that require creative solutions. U.S. citizenship is required, and the ability to obtain and/or maintain a secret level security clearance is necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct experimental research in quantum optics, leveraging expertise in experimental or applied physics, optics, or related fields.
  • Collaborate with the team to develop and implement creative solutions to complex research challenges.
  • Communicate research findings and results through written and verbal reports.
  • Travel up to 10% per year to support research activities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in quantum sensors and quantum clocks.
  • Experience with atom interferometry.
  • Demonstrated skills in creative or independent problem-solving.
  • Experience with atomic cooling and trapping techniques.
  • Experience with inertial sensing.
  • Experience with entanglement, spin squeezing, or active superradiant emission.
  • Experience with readout based on quantum nondemolition measurement.
  • Experience with interrogation of nonclassical optical fields.
  • Experience building custom optical characterization experiments and/or equipment.
  • Familiarity with common computer languages, such as Matlab, Comsol, Python, etc.
