Anesthesia Technician Job Summary

At Advocate Health, we are seeking a skilled Anesthesia Technician to join our team. As an Anesthesia Technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our operating rooms. Your primary responsibility will be to assist anesthesiologists and other medical professionals in preparing patients for surgery, monitoring their vital signs, and maintaining a safe and efficient operating environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Set up and maintain monitoring equipment, including ECG machines, ventilators, and patient monitoring systems.
  • Assist in the insertion of arterial pressure lines, central venous catheters, and other medical devices.
  • Draw blood samples for diagnostic testing and check equipment for proper functioning.
  • Calibrate pressure and recording systems to ensure accurate readings.
  • Assist in patient transfers, collect data sheets, and establish ECG and pressure monitoring at the destination.
  • Clean and maintain equipment, perform daily maintenance checks, and stock supplies.
  • Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and take necessary steps to restore functionality.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.

Requirements:
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) within 6 months.
  • High School Graduate.
  • Typically requires 1 year of experience in a surgical, medical, or related healthcare setting.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency.

Working Conditions:
  • Exposed to chemical and radiation hazards, requiring protective clothing.
  • Must stand, sit, walk, and lift throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., carry up to 40 lbs., and push/pull with 30 lbs. of force.
