The Medical Lab Technician plays a crucial role in the Patient Service Center (PSC) by ensuring the accurate and efficient management of specimen accessioning and processing. This position requires effective communication and collaboration with colleagues to enhance job performance and foster positive working relationships.
Essential Duties- Conducts all procedures for obtaining, preparing, and packaging specimens for transport, ensuring compliance with established policies.
- Provides patients with appropriate containers and instructions for specimen collection, verifying collection techniques and total volume.
- Maintains a clean and organized work environment, promptly notifying supervisors of any supply shortages.
- Participates in ongoing educational opportunities, attending departmental meetings and completing required training.
- Accurately manages specimen accessioning and processing to guarantee high-quality specimens for laboratory testing.
- Ensures correct patient identification and performs registration, billing, and test order procedures efficiently.
- Reviews insurance information and test requests, ensuring compliance with medical necessity requirements.
- Delivers exceptional patient service by applying AIDET principles and ensuring the accuracy of technical information provided.
- Prioritizes collection requests to minimize patient wait times while maintaining specimen integrity.
- May perform additional duties as assigned.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of Phlebotomy training or a relevant Allied Health program.
- BLS certification within 90 days of hire.
This position is essential for maintaining the high standards of patient care and laboratory services at Inova Health System.
