Job Overview

The Denim Design Team at Macy's is seeking a talented Assistant Designer to join their ranks. As a key member of the team, you will play a crucial role in developing and executing the company's denim design strategy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough research on category, trend, and customer preferences to inform design decisions.
  • Collaborate with the Design Team to align with the Private Brand direction, incorporating materials, trims, silhouettes, colors, and patterns.
  • Support the team in executing a strategic vision with a progressive, customer-centric approach, contributing to overall product strategy and merchandise objectives.
  • Prepare presentation materials and set up for design-led meetings.
  • Contribute to in-season design changes for the department and vendors.
  • Participate in cross-functional team meetings, summarizing action points for the manager.
  • Closely collaborate with the people leader to meet deadlines and understand priority and workload expectations.
  • Develop skills in creating flat mechanical sketches for design development packages.
  • Assist in creating wash handoffs in partnership with the people leader and wash engineer.
  • Participate in creating and distributing tech packages.
  • Approve washes, proto samples, and other development materials.
  • Acquire skills in using Adobe and CLO programs for style, color, and pattern development.
  • Review and provide feedback on development & wash samples.
  • Establish relationships and maintain regular communication with cross-functional partners throughout the development cycle.
  • Learn on the job how to identify opportunities and develop a denim-focused assortment.

  • Candidates with a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply. Experience in retail or design internships preferred.
  • Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel. Occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms. Requires close vision.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.
