This is a critical role that requires expertise in designing and implementing robust database solutions, ensuring high performance, security, and reliability. As a Senior Database Administrator, you will be responsible for:

  • Designing and implementing complex database systems that support the project's data analytics tools and products.
  • Ensuring database performance, scalability, and reliability, and meeting the SBA's operational and IT requirements.
  • Monitoring database performance, identifying bottlenecks, and implementing tuning measures to ensure high availability and efficient data processing.
  • Implementing and maintaining security measures to safeguard sensitive data, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and best practices for data protection and privacy.
  • Developing and managing backup and recovery procedures to ensure data integrity and availability.
  • Supporting data integration efforts by managing ETL processes and ensuring smooth data flow between systems.
  • Providing technical support and troubleshooting database issues, working closely with IT teams, data scientists, and other stakeholders to resolve database-related problems.
  • Maintaining comprehensive documentation for database configurations, procedures, and changes.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; a Master's degree is a plus.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in database administration, with a strong focus on complex database systems and data management.
  • Proven experience in database design, performance tuning, security, backup and security management.
  • Experience with database management systems such as Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, or PostgreSQL.
  • Expertise in database architecture, design, and performance optimization.
  • Strong knowledge of data security best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficient in database scripting and programming languages (e.g., SQL, PL/SQL, T-SQL).
  • Strong knowledge of database design, data modeling, and ETL processes.
  • Experience with data integration tools and technologies.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex database issues.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams.
  • Relevant certifications such as Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA) or similar are highly desirable.
