We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated General Merchandise Team Leader to join our team at Target. As a key member of our retail operations team, you will be responsible for leading a team of hourly team members to deliver exceptional guest service and drive sales growth in our General Merchandise department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team of hourly team members to achieve sales goals and deliver exceptional guest service.
  • Execute daily and weekly workload to deliver on department and store sales goals and guest engagement, including merchandising, pricing, transitions, revisions, sales plans, sampling, promotions, and price changes.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Team Leader to lead the understanding of operational procedures, such as planogram ties, product capacities, and sales floor quantities, and their impact on shortage, profitability, in-store replenishment, and inventory accuracy.
  • Empower the team to create a consistent experience for our guests, assess reporting to identify gaps in GM and Fulfillment processes, and develop a plan to resolve with the ETL's approval.
  • Execute processes in inbound, outbound, replenishment, inventory accuracy, presentation, pricing, and promotional signing processes for select GM areas of the store.
  • Lead pick, pack, and ship fulfillment work to ensure efficient delivery to our guests.
  • Work with Closing teams to identify key priorities and ensure the store is guest-ready per the ETL's direction.
  • Create a scheduling plan approved by the ETL based on monthly and weekly business workload and guest traffic.
  • Enable team members to stay up-to-date on relevant trends and products.
  • Evaluate candidates for open positions and develop a guest-centric team lead team onboarding and learning plan to close knowledge gaps through training and experiences.
  • Establish clear goals and expectations and hold team members accountable to expectations.
  • Lead and coach the team to ensure accuracy and efficiency in all GM processes.
  • Work a schedule that aligns to guest and business needs, including early morning, evening, overnight shifts, and weekends.
  • Assess Fulfillment business and make decisions consistent with the ETL's direction to help teams fulfill all guest orders accurately and efficiently.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias.
  • Demonstrate a culture of ethical conduct, safety, and compliance; lead and hold the team accountable to work in the same way.
  • Help create a safety advocacy culture by understanding how safety impacts your role and that of your team, identifying and correcting hazards, and holding team members accountable to working in a safe manner to benefit themselves and others.
  • Lead and demonstrate a culture of executing all best practices as outlined with team onboarding and learning; help close skill gaps through development, coaching, and team interactions.
  • Address store needs, including emergency, regulatory visits, and other business-critical tasks.
  • Support guest services, such as back-up cashier, digital fulfillment processes, while maintaining a compliance culture, including compliance with federal, state, and local adult beverage laws.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Age 18 or older.
  • Previous retail experience preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to lead and hold others accountable, communicate on multiple frequency devices, operate handheld scanners, and other technology equipment as directed.
  • Work independently and as part of a team, manage workload and prioritize tasks independently, and remain focused and composed in a fast-paced environment.
  • Welcoming and helpful attitude, effective communication skills, and ability to interpret instructions, reports, and information.
  • Accurately handle cash register operations as needed, climb up and down ladders as needed, scan, handle, and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including frequently lifting or moving merchandise up to 44 pounds.
  • Flexible work schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays; reliable and prompt attendance necessary.
  • Capable of working in and exposure to varying temperatures, humidity, and other elements while performing certain job duties.
