Job Summary:
The Payroll Specialist will perform technical and clerical work involving the preparation and maintenance of payroll records under the general supervision of the Assistant Director of Payroll.
Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities:- Process payroll changes and verify time and leave reports submitted from each school location.
- Process monthly deduction and pay code changes in the ERP system.
- Process required personnel actions and verify and balance payroll entries prior to processing monthly payroll.
- Prepare payroll reports as necessary and assist with processing and reprints of W2s.
- Reconcile and maintain records, including pre- and post-tax deductions, and maintain appropriate records and files.
- Support and demonstrate core values of Stafford County Public Schools, including engaging in ongoing professional development relevant to the position.
- Respond to written and oral requests for information promptly and thoroughly, and maintain a clean, neat appearance, appropriate to the position.
- Maintain a record of appropriate attendance and punctuality, and serve as a role model for students, colleagues, and the general public.
- Work in close harmony with colleagues, supervisors, and co-workers, and comply with all District and School policies and regulations, including but not limited to guidelines for confidentiality.
A high school diploma, G.E.D., or any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school, supplemented by courses in bookkeeping, accounting, or a related field, is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:- Knowledge of payroll system codes and procedures, Stafford County School Board financial management policies and procedures, standard accounting principles, terminology, methods, procedures, and equipment, and standard office procedures, practices, and equipment.
- Skills in operating a computer and other standard office equipment necessary to maintaining records, following detailed procedures, and performing mathematical computations with accuracy.
- Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment to meet goals, organize and perform work independently, meet deadlines for all work, even when working on multiple projects, and show sustained effort and enthusiasm in quality and quantity of work.
The work environment is inside, with low noise, temperatures that are controlled, and no exposure to chemicals or other negative air quality elements.
The work is light work, requiring exertion of up to 20 pounds of force to move or lift objects.
