Job Title: Lead Health Information Specialist

Join CIOX Health as a Lead Health Information Specialist and play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and compliance of patient health information. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for processing medical record requests, maintaining confidentiality, and adhering to company policies and HIPAA regulations.

Responsibilities:
  • Receive and process patient health information requests in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of privileged information.
  • Ensure compliance with company and facility policies and procedures.
  • Inform manager of work difficulties and fluctuating volumes.
  • Assist with additional work duties and responsibilities as needed.
  • Enhance attention to detail for medical records.
  • Apply medical privacy regulations to guard against unauthorized disclosure.
  • Manage patient health records and ensure compliance with HIPAA standards.
  • Prepare new patient charts, gathering documents and information from paper sources and/or electronic health records.
  • Ensure medical records are assembled in standard order and are accurate and complete.
  • Create digital images of paperwork to be stored in the electronic medical record.
  • Respond to requests for patient records, both within the facility and by external sources.
  • Answer inbound and outbound calls.
  • May assist with patient walk-ins and administrative duties.
  • May schedule pick-ups and assist with training associates.
  • Generate reports for manager or facility as directed.
  • Exceed level 1 productivity expectations as outlined at specific sites.
  • Participate in project teams and committees to advance operational strategies and initiatives.
  • Mentor HIS staff for further professional development.
  • Inform senior leadership of issues, opportunities, or challenges.
  • Assist throughout the region with training, mentoring, and/or coverage as needed.
  • Participate and assist with onboarding activities for new employees.
  • Assist with Quality Assurance tasks as directed by management.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Ability to commute between locations as needed.
  • Able to work overtime during peak seasons when required.
  • 1-year Health Information related experience.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Comfortable utilizing phones, fax machines, printers, and other general office equipment.
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills in the English language.
  • Detail and quality-oriented as it relates to accurate and compliant information for medical records.
  • Strong data entry skills.
  • Must be able to work with minimum supervision responding to changing priorities and role needs.
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Able to respond to requests in a fast-paced environment.
  • Presentation skills for small group settings.
  • Forward thinking and ability to problem-solve.

Preferred qualifications include 2+ years of Health Information related experience, meeting and/or exceeding Company's Productivity Standards, and previous production/metric-based work experience.

Work is generally performed in an office environment with minimal exposure to unpleasant and/or hazardous working conditions. Must have the ability to stand and sit frequently throughout an eight-hour period, reach horizontally and vertically for overhead use, and use a telephone or headset equipment. Incumbent must be able to lift 20 lbs., perform work at a computer terminal for 6-8 hours a day, and function in an environment with constant interruptions.
