Role Overview
The Registered Nurse is tasked with delivering professional nursing care tailored to the unique needs of our patient population, adhering to the Illinois Nurse Practice Act. This role involves daily management of office operations and collaboration with the patient care team to ensure seamless coordination of care among all Clinic departments, hospitals, nursing homes, and home care agencies.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough nursing assessments, documenting health histories and findings in medical records.
- Gather essential medical information, including vital signs and diagnostic results, to prepare for physician evaluations.
- Act as a patient advocate, safeguarding patient rights and addressing service-related concerns.
- Assess the necessity for referrals to external agencies or healthcare providers.
- Screen patient inquiries, providing advice or referrals as needed.
- Develop and implement educational programs focused on health maintenance and disease prevention, documenting outcomes.
- Deliver home care instructions for medical procedures and medications.
- Provide pre and postoperative guidance for surgical and medical interventions.
- Document all patient education efforts in medical records.
- Administer respiratory treatments and maintain accurate documentation.
- Perform irrigation procedures and document results accordingly.
- Collect specimens for testing and ensure proper coding.
- Apply and remove casts, offering patient education and recording details in medical records.
- Execute procedures such as catheterization and dressing changes, following infection control protocols.
- Administer medications via all routes, excluding chemotherapy unless certified.
- Assist physicians during patient examinations and treatments, ensuring adherence to infection control policies.
- Orient new staff members to specialty areas.
- Provide emotional support and guidance to patients and their families.
- Participate in emergency response teams and provide staff education.
- Serve as a resource for nursing staff across the Clinic.
- May take on Health Care Assistant responsibilities as per hospital policy.
- Coordinate nursing care by collaborating with all relevant departments and healthcare facilities.
- Exhibit professionalism by adhering to performance standards, including dress code.
- Ensure confidentiality for patients and staff members.
- Stay informed through educational programs and current literature, documenting for annual evaluations.
- Facilitate pre-certifications and referrals for insurance purposes.
- Schedule necessary procedures and surgeries.
- Comply with incident reporting policies and procedures.
- Adhere to OSHA regulations and Springfield Clinic training requirements.
- Deliver exceptional customer service, upholding the Clinic's Code of Conduct and Ethics Standards.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse education, including an ADN, diploma, or BSN.
Licenses and Certifications
- Active Registered Nurse license in the State of Illinois.
- CPR certification per American Heart Association guidelines required within 30 days of hire.
Skills and Competencies
- Independent nursing practice in accordance with the Illinois Nurse Practice Act.
- Accountability for personal practice and delegated responsibilities.
- Ability to participate in relevant committees.
Work Environment
