Job Overview

The Rec2connect Foundation is seeking a dedicated professional to join our team as an Aquatic Specialist. This role is pivotal in enhancing the well-being of our participants through tailored aquatic therapy programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Engage with supervisors to discuss participant referrals and assist in conducting assessments, ensuring goals are appropriately adjusted.
  • Implement individualized recreation therapy activities for participants within all aquatic programming.
  • Document participant progress meticulously, adhering to Rec2connect standards through daily notes that include both prompt and narrative data.
  • Design and modify daily activities to align with the unique needs of each participant.
  • Prepare and maintain equipment for sessions, ensuring all tools are in optimal condition and reporting any necessary replacements.
  • Provide essential recreation therapy resources and emotional support to participants and their families.
  • Foster a positive and supportive environment during therapy sessions, prioritizing participant safety by adhering to health and safety protocols.
  • Communicate behavioral observations effectively to team members, assisting in the development and implementation of behavior modification plans.
  • Encourage active participation in recreational opportunities, offering necessary support to facilitate involvement.
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and promote a professional image of recreation therapy within the organization.
  • Participate in staff meetings and in-service training as required, fostering positive working relationships within the agency.
  • Manage appointment schedules, including check-ins and rescheduling for missed sessions.
Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to observe and assess participant behaviors, developing appropriate modification plans.
  • Understanding of Applied Behavior Analysis and its integration into programming.
  • Knowledge of therapeutic recreation principles and their impact on participant functioning.
  • Familiarity with relevant terminology, diagnoses, and conditions affecting participants.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and reports while gathering assessment information according to established guidelines.
  • Proficiency in planning and leading diverse therapeutic recreation sessions.
  • Knowledge of activity modification techniques and accessibility concepts to enhance participation.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Preferred experience in recreation therapy or related certifications.
  • Two years of experience in similar roles is advantageous.

Licensure/Certifications:

  • Valid driver's license.
  • CPR certification is mandatory.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and handle recreational equipment.
  • Capability to provide physical prompting for up to one hour.
  • Ability to demonstrate exercises and movements for clients for extended periods.
